    About

Tim and Trina Patterson along with their children Alenna, Sarah, and Lochlan, operate Broad Leaf Santa Gertrudis at “Bottle Tree Downs” near Rolleston in Central Queensland. Established in 2004 from grading up cows from our family’s commercial herd as well as the purchase of stud cows from other studs as the opportunity arose. We now run 200 cows in our stud herd as well as 400 commercial breeders on “Bottle Tree Downs”.

Our first Santa Gertrudis cattle were introduced into our commercial herd in 1984 by establishing a small herd of cows to breed bulls supplementing our purchases to fast track the breed into our polled Hereford herd.

In Broad Leaf Santa Gertrudis, genetics from Gyranda, Rosevale, Greenup, Rowanlea, Glencol, Yarrawonga/Waco, Pinaroo, Cooinda, and Cree Studs can be found in the pedigrees of our cattle. As you can see, stud sires have been sourced from a number of studs as well as using AI with an emphasis being placed on quiet, fertile cattle that will perform in our environment, finishing off pasture, crop, or in the feedlot. “Bottle Tree Downs” is predominantly Brigalow/softwood scrub country with buffel grass being the main pasture.

“Our aim is to produce commercially aligned, environmentally adapted cattle that perform in Central Queensland.”
